Phelicity in Cats World Wide

September 11, 2001

Never forget.

Meow from Phelicity in Springfield, Missouri! I joined Cats World Wide to learn about all the other places we kitties live, and it sure is fun! Besides, I get to meow about my own area a lot.

I know a few things about Missouri, though I haven't been here all my life. The state bird is the little native bluebird (I am always interested in birds!) and the state flower is the white hawthorn blossom, a member of the rose family. The hawthorns grow in white clusters all over the state, but particularly in the Ozarks. In the early summer the woodsy parts are full of tall, wild orange-colored lilies, too. We have four definite seasons here, and I like that cause I have lived where it was summer ten months of the year. This is much better! Springfield is a small city in southern Missouri, with a lot of two things: colleges and traffic. It is near, but not actually in, the Ozark Mountains.

The first Special Activity I did was meowing about a special food that's common in this area. Well, it might be common all over where there are chickens on the place! But this area is a big producer of chickens for market. When we lived near a town with a major chicken-processing plant in North Arkansas, the whole town smelled like chicken soup sometimes.

Too-Many-Eggs Quiche
by Phelicity

We still live in the Ozarks, but we live in a city now, and Meowmie doesn't have chickens any more. That means we don't get to hear the roosters crow or see the colorful little banties running around all over. But what it means to Meowmie is Store Bought Eggs, which she makes furry rude remarks about that I won't even repeat! When we lived on the mountain, we had lots and lots of eggs. Big ones, little ones, brown ones, white ones, even blue ones! (We had Araucana chickens too.) So many flats of fresh good eggs in the frig, there was hardly room fur our catfood! But we don't like leftover anyway. Meowmie sold lotsa eggs to other people, but we still had piles of them. We girls loved to lick up raw egg when one dropped on the floor. Sometimes we even helped it get dropped. But Meowmie would hurry to scoop up the white part first, cause raw eggwhite isn't good fur kitties.

Mew know those chickens that laid all the eggs? Well, they weren't furry dependable in winter like they were the rest of the year. I guess they were too cold. So when Meowmie had piles of eggs, she made Too-many-eggs Quiche to put in the freezer fur winter. She put a dozen eggs or more in the blender till it was half full, added some milk, salt and a little flour, and the blender made a horrible racket beating it all up! Then she made a pie crust or two and put stuff in the bottom; chopped scallions from the garden, diced ham or crumbled bacon, grated cheese, and sometimes even spinach (yuck). Just a bunch of whatever stuff she had on hand. Then she'd pour in the eggs and bake it slowly fur about an hour. Quiche is furry good! Meowmie would share hers with me sometimes. No onion and no spinach (yuck), but I could have some top part with the cheese. It was yummy. I loved it. But Meowmie doesn't bother making quiches out of Store Bought Eggs. She says they don't deserve it.

For our second Special Activity, I made a page about my fafurite special place in the area, The Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. It's a furry elegant place! Well, I'm an elegant kitty. Mew can see my page Right Here! This is my badge I won.

I just did the August Special Activity and made a page about what I do in the summer. It's a purrty page with summery stuff on it, Right Here! And this is my badge fur that page. Isn't it beautifur?

I made a purrty Autumn page fur the September Special Activity, and it is Right Here!

I am an all-American kitty, as mew can tell, and I am a Bluepoint Birman, too. My breed originated in the temples of Burma (now called Myanmar), where we were called the Sacred Cats. (We still are.) Since I am descended from the first pair of Birmans taken out of the temples to Paris, France in the 1890's, I am also furry interested in Myanmar and the temples there. I hope to get a chance to do a project on that sometime!

Thank mew for coming to my guild page! NOTE: Our guild has changed leadership and has a new name. I am furry happy to be a memfur now of the Feline Global Village! Come to visit us and join in the fun! Soon I will link my new page here, all about Feline Global Village!
