Highland Gardens Civic Association, Inc.

Minutes for May 11, 2011

Meeting opened with Pledge of Allegiance led by Sgt. at Arms Louie Rodriguez. President David Kout called for Reports.

First report was given by HPD Ofc. Derek Cormier. Crime is trending down in area. A suspect involved in multiple burglaries has been arrested, and a group involved with robbery assaults on the beach broadwalk has been apprehended as well. Derek insisted the public not be shy about contacting the police if something seems out of place, such as people or behaviour, in their area. Finally, since exterior A.C. units are a favorite target, bolt down cage tops are available, and H & B Hoffman will include one free if a unit is bought from them.

Code Ofc. Tommy Pinder reported that the merger with the police Dept is working out well. A joint sweep was done in another area, and multiple citations were issued. In response to a question about budget and staffing, Tommy stated that flex time was being used to work around overtime, and still achieve what must be done.

VP Chris Lundy reported that she had a quote for under $300 for new signs. Our treasurer, Reginald Qusenberry, volunteered to pay for a new set up for more enticing signs.

Maria Ratliff, representing the community garden, tried to answer questions about the fence, but she herself has been looking into these things. David pointed out that money had been donated for this express purpose. Maria has also been inquiring into having a meeting with Mr. Hamm, Principal of McNicol School RE: use of park area around school.

David Kout was concerned about the $75,000 that was said to be available for the 3 projects in the neighborhood. (That would be $25,000 each.) There is conflicting information on the topic.

Treasurer Reginald Qusenberry reported that we have $1,100.87 in the bank. He assures us that the "bugs" are ironed out of our bank account. This report was accepted and the meeting was adjourned.

Minutes were taken by Vice President Chris Lundy.
