CRIME WATCH WHAT IS CITIZENS CRIME WATCH?
Crime Watch is a crime prevention program that works through the local police department. Mobile Patrol is a part of this program.
The goal of Crime Watch is to prevent and deter crime by organizing and teaching citizens what to look for in order to have a safe neighborhood.
Crime Watch brings law enforcement and communities together, working as a team to reduce crime in all areas. It is impossible for the police to be everywhere at all times, so the answer is to train the residents to be observant. They know who belongs in their neighborhood and who doesn't. It's neighbors looking out for one another. So when something seems wrong, they are encouraged to report it to the police.
Here in Hollywood, every neighborhood has a zone co-ordinator that is on the Crime Watch advisory board. If someone wants to have a community crime watch meeting, they should contact their zone co-ordinator to set it up.
The South Central co-ordinator is Shirley Stealey. Her number is 954-923-9109. The South Central area encompasses the Highland Gardens neighborhood which goes south from Hollywood Blvd. to Pembroke Road and west from Dixie Highway to I95.
If you would like the name of your zone co-ordinator, please call 954-967-4314.

Here's a few tips that help to deter burglars....
1. An alarm system, dogs, lighting, impact windows, and the biggy, a well acquainted neighborhood. All these can help to discourage a break-in. It's a good idea to alert your neighbors to any deliveries you might be expecting. Also, have some one pick up your mail and newspapers, or make other arrangements if you will be out of town. It's a sure sign no one's home if these things pile up.
2. Always lock your car and don't leave items in the car where they can be seen.
